Thousands of children are fleeing their home countries of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras due to the lack of economic opportunity and threats from gangs. Children have experienced violence, sexual assault and forcible recruitment into criminal activity of gangs. For parents who send their children on the journey to the U.S., the life-threatening journey north is a more appealing option to these children and is viewed by their families as the last remaining option to secure their safety. Pope Francis has called for the care and protection of these children. Thanks to our generous community, the 2014 Community Baby Shower was a huge success! As one of the four nonprofits selected to benefit from the 8th Annual On Your Side Community Baby Shower, Catholic Charities of Idaho received thousands of diapers, wipes, shampoos, blankets, bottles and other baby items that will help build strong, healthy families in the Treasure Valley. In total, Catholic Charities of Idaho collected almost 15,000 diapers during the Community Baby Shower!
